Hall Springs Hotel Page

If you visit Hall Spring entrance to Herring Run Park, you will almost instantly be surrounded by physical traces of the past. The spring (Hall or Hall’s Spring) is still present along the east side of the entrance road, and on a hill overlooking the modern playground is the ruin of the Eutaw Methodist Church, which served the small community known as Hall Springs. This community included several homes for workers at the nearby cotton mill (long since destroyed) and the Hall Springs Hotel, which was demolished after the city acquired the property to use as park land. In 2017, HRAP conducted additional testing at Hall Spring in response to community concerns about ground disturbance related to the replacement of the Harford Road Bridge over Herring Run. Several precontact Native American and historic-period sites were identified, and this fieldwork allowed the city to avoid disturbing these resources during construction of the bridge.
